Classic homegrown cuisine stepped up a culinary notch as California Pizza Kitchen launched the Filipino Adobo Pizza to mark its 10th year Philippine anniversary. Held at the CPK Glorietta branch, the unveiling of the Filipino Adobo Pizza was a fitting salute to a decade of serving premium pizzas.
“The Filipino Adobo Pizza is the first Philippine flavor to be included in any CPK menu worldwide. It is a delicious tribute to the local Filipino market that has supported us throughout the years,” said Archie Rodriquez, President of Global Restaurants Inc. (GRCI), the franchise owner of CPK Philippines.
Larry S. Flax, the co-Founder and co-CEO of California Pizza Kitchen, together with his wife Joni and son, Peter Gillette, even flew in from the United States to celebrate this Filipino milestone. The executive management of GRCI such as Director Richard Santos, Treasurer Griffith Go and Vice-Chairman Manuel Zubiri, brother of Senator Miguel Zubiri, lent their support as well.
“It was only a decade ago when we first ventured to the Philippines—our first franchise outside the US,” remembered Flax. “Now, CPK has won the hearts and palates of Filipinos. That’s why I’m confident that many will appreciate their local favorite, the adobo, re-imagined as a California-style pizza.”

TV host and comedian RJ Ledesma hosted the press conference that also highlighted the milestones of CPK in the Philippines. From its first store in Glorietta 3, there are now five other branches operating in Shangri-La Plaza Mall, Greenhills Promenade, Alabang Town Center, Power Plant Mall and TriNoma.
The event also underscored the accolades CPK has received in recent years. In 2006, CPK Glorietta garnered a citation from CPK US as the “International Franchise Operator of the Year”, while CPK Alabang was awarded the Marketing Excellence Values award in the 9th Annual Ayala Malls Merchants Awards.
Then in 2007, the Department of Trade and Industry awarded CPK Philippines as the “Model Company of the Year”. CPK won grand slam in 3 categories in DTI’s Center for Industrial Competitiveness, namely: Quality & Production, Labor Relations, and Family Welfare and Community Relations.
“2008 promises to be a banner year for us at CPK Philippines,” added Rodriguez. “Our CPK branch at the posh Greenbelt 5 will be opening soon. And we will be launching a number of promotions such as our Gift and Loyalty Cards as well as the brand-new cpk.com.ph website.”
